Foxtail Millet Tomato Bath

Tomato Bath is very famous food  in Karnataka.But this is a modified version with Foxtail millet .Easy ,simple ,healthy and lite on tummy.Perfect for Easy peasy day's. The taste will be like a masala version of Ven pongal or lite version of bisebelebath.But i am sure its perfect for kids with its creamy porridge like consistency.

Foxtail Millet Tomato Bath

Recipe Cuisine: Indian | Recipe Category: Lunch
Preparation Time:30 Mins | Serves: 2

Ingredients


Foxtail Millet | Thinai - 1/2 Cup

Toor Dal - 1/4 Cup to 1/2 Cup

Mustard- 1/2 tsp

Zeera | Cumin - 1 tsp

Cashew- 5

Ginger - 1 tbsp(chopped)

Green chilli - 2

Curry Leaves- 1 Strand

Tomato- 2(medium)

Turmeric - 1/4 tsp

Hing | Asafoetida - a pinch

Salt

Sugar-1 tsp(optional)

Ghee- 2 tbsp

Method:

  1. Soak the millet for minimun of 1 hour and pressure cook with 1 : 3 Ratio water for 3- 4 Whistles.
  2. Also pressure cook dal and smash it well.
  3. Now in a hot pan add ghee then mustard.when mustard splutters add zeera ,cashew ,ginger,green chilli and fry till ginger cooked.
  4. Now add in Curry leaves ,followed by tomato ,salt ,turmeric and give a quick mix and close the lid, let it cook for few mins .
  5. Adding salt helps the tomato to cook faster and get mushy easily.
  6. Now add in the cooked toordal and allow it boil.
  7. Once it started to boil add in the cooked foxtail millet and smash it well to remove the lumps
  8. Adjust the water ,salt,sugar and allow it boil for 2 mins .
  9. Now add hing and give a quick mix.
  10. Switch off the flame and garnish with Coriander leaves.

Notes:

  • Can also use 1 tomato if u dont like tomato much.
  • Add mix veg if u wish.

Tomato Idiyapam | Tomato sevai | Thakkali sevai |How to make Tomato sevai

Tomato Idiyapam | Thakkali Sevai |Tomato sevai .I am a fan of santhavai | String hoppers with coconut milk which my grandma use to make with santhavai press for us in my child hood days.But after coming to Singapore i couldn't taste that ,as i dont have the press then i started to try the idiyapam one with my muruku press and once just tried this tomato sevai and lemon sevai for a change from sweet version,and surprisingly my LO Shn liked it very much.You can also try this with ready made sevai available in stores.It is Very simple and light to tummy with not of much masala's. Tomato Sevai | Thakkali sevai

Preparation Time:20 mins | Serves: 2

Ingredients


Idiyappam | Sevai- 2 cups

Tomato-2

Onion-1

Curry leaves- 1 strand

Green chili-1

Red chilli pwdr- 1 tsp

Turmeric- 1/4 tsp

Channa dal - 1 tsp

Urad dal - 1 tsp

Mustard- 1/2 tsp

Oil- 2 tbsp

Salt as needed

Coriander leaves- 2 strand

Method:

  1. Keep the sevai or idiyapam ready.
  2. 2 add
  3. In hot pan add oil and temper it with (mustard,urad dal,channa dal).Once the mustard splutters and urad dal and channa dal become brown add the onion ,curry leaves,green chili and cook till the onion is translucent.
  4. 2 add
  5. Now add the tomato along with salt and cook till its mushy.Now add in the red chili pwdr ,turmeric and cook till everything turns into a gravy.
  6. 2 add
  7. Now adjust the salt and switch off the flame .Add in the sevai | Idiyappam and mix well till combined ,give 2 more minutes standing time as the mixture may look like it have more gravy on it but don't wry it will absorb all the moisture in another 2 mins.
  8. Now garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

Notes:

  • I just added red chilli pwdr , you can also add garam masala to it.
  • You can also add grated coconut at the last.
  • To make tomatoes mushy soon,Always add salt along with tomato and close the lid to cook.

Dhivi's Pantry - Tomato Raita | Thakkali Thayir Pachadi

        A simple tangy raita goes perfect with  simple variety rices like mint rice,any pulao, coriander rice,paratha's and also with veg dosa's .

    



Tomato Raita | Thakkali Thayir Pachadi

Recipe Cuisine: Indian  |  Recipe Category: Side dish
Preparation Time:20 mins | Serves: 3

Ingredients


Tomato -2

Curd-1/2 to 1 cup

Onion-1(finelly chopped)

Greenchilli-1(chopped)

Mustard-1/2 tsp

Oil-1 tbsp

Coriander leaves -1 tbsp( chopped)

Salt as per taste

Method:

  1. In a pan add water and let it come to boil(water should cover the tomato).
  2. 2 add
  3. Make a + cut in the back side of tomato .
  4. Now add the tomato to the boiling hot water(+ side up) then switch off and cover it with the lid.let it sit for 10 mins
  5. Now peel off the skin & top hard part  and chop finely.
  6. 2 add
  7. Heat the oil in the pan , add mustard once it splits add green chilli and fry for a minute.
  8. Now add the tomato and cook till mushy and all the water evaporates(use your spatula to make it more mushy) .
  9. Now switch off and keep it side to cool.
  10. 2 add
  11. Now take the curd and beat well add salt,chopped onions and tomato gravy and mix well.
  12. Finally add the coriander and mix well.

Notes:

    • If you or any of your family members usually keep chuncky tomato's out of the plate ,then puree the tomato and cook it .
    • Increase or reduce the curd as per the tanginess of tomato.

Tomato Kuruma |Thakkali Kuruma |Side dish for Dosa

         This tomato kuruma is very easy and yum with dosa. When ever i prepare this my  hubby find out as soon as he enter home.Even if i prepare variety's of chutney ,he will be asking you havn't prepare that yellow kuruma va ?.Ya he keep calling this as"yellow kuruma".Here is the recipe ,do try and let me know your comments..:)

    



Tomato Kuruma

Recipe Cuisine: Indian  |  Recipe Category: Breakfast\Sidedish
Preparation Time:15 mins | Serves: 2

Ingredients


Big Onion-2

Tomato-1 1/2

Sambar powder-1tsp(or more as per taste)

Turmeric

Salt as per taste

To Grind


Cocunut-1/4 cup

Green chilli-1

Fennel-1/2 tsp

Roasted Gram dal-1 tsp(pottukadalai)

To Temper:


Cinnamon-1"

Cloves-3

Oil for deep frying

Method:

  1. Chop Onion ,Tomato finelly and grind the cocunut,potukadalai,fennel,greenchilli into fine paste.
  2. 2 add
  3. In a pan add oil and add cloves,cinnamon and fry for 10 secs.
  4. 2 add
  5. Now add the onion ,once the onion is transulent add tomato and bit of salt.Fry until mushy and all water from tomato evaporates.
  6. 2 add
  7. Now add the turmeric and sambar pwdr fry for 2 more mins.Then add the ground paste,enough water and adjust the salt.
  8. 2 add
  9. Let it boil for 5 mins,then garnish with coriander and switch off.

Notes:

    • Dont skip fennel and green chilli.
    • This goes yum with Dosa and uthapam
