Palak Sambar | Spinach Dal | Palak Dal | Spinach Sambar



Spinach dal | Palak sambar

Recipe Cuisine: Indian | Recipe Category: Lunch
Preparation Time:30 mins | Serves: 2-3

Ingredients


Toor dal - 1 cup

Palak Leaves- 1/ 2 Bunch 0r 1 Cup (Chopped)

Garlic- 2- 3

Onion- 1

Tomato-1

Turmeric- 1/4 tsp

Sambar powder-1 tbsp

hing (op)

Mustard- 1/4 tsp

Zeera | Cumin- 1 tsp

Curry Leaves - 1 strand

Oil as needed

Ghee or Butter to garnish

Method:

  1. Pressure cook dal with little turmeric and garlic for 4- 5 whistle(the dal should be mushy ).
  2. In a hot kadai add oil then add in mustard ,once the mustard splutters add in the cumin | Zeera fry till it cracks.Now add in the chopped onion + curry leaves and cook till it become translucent.
  3. Now add the chopped tomatoes and cook till it become mushy ,now add in little turmeric and sambar powder.Mix well and add in the chopped palak leaves and cook till its fully reduced.
  4. Now smash the dal with a laddle and add it to the palak and mix well.Adjust the water ,salt and allow it to cook for 5 mins or till you get desired consistency.
  5. Switch off the flame and garnish with ghee or butter.
  6. Serve with hot rice and ghee....

Notes:

  • Make not to use too much palak.
  • If making this for chappati ,you can add g & g paste and redchilli,coriander pwdr ,little garam masala in place of sambar powder.
  • My samabar powder is little spicy so i used less , if you want more spicyness add in redchilli too..
  • The sambar should have tamrind in it ,but this taste good with out tamrind,so go ahead ...

Uppu Paruppu | Simple Dal | Nei Paruppu

Uppu Paruppu | Nei Parupu | Plain Dal Fry | Simple Dal is also an one pot gravy which is easy to make and healthy.This is the traditional way of making dals for sambar or for other curry's.Put all the ingredients in one pot ,cook till done (so simple right).My LO Shn loves this with ghee.Here is the recipe from dhivi's Pantry-Uppu Paruppu. Preparation Time:30 mins | Serves: 2-3

Ingredients


Toor Dal - 1 Cup

Small Onion | Shallots - 1 hand full

Tomato-1

Red chili- 2 or 3

Garlic- 3(big)

Curry leaves-1 strand

Cumin Seed-1/2 tbsp

Turmeric-1/2 tsp

Oil- 1 tsp

Salt as per taste

Method:

    2 add
  1. Chop onion,tomato,garlic roughly.
  2. Now in a deep pot or pressure cooker add dal and wash it well.
  3. Add in the remaining ingredients (onion,garlic,chili,tomato,cumin,turmeric,curry leaves) and enough water.
  4. Now turn on the stove and close the lid not completely,leave some gap .
  5. After it start boils it will over flow to stop that add oil at this .
  6. It may take 20 min to cook completely(ref pic).When its done add salt and smash well using mathu or you can blend in mixer.
  7. Uppu parupu ready.Tempering is optional.

Notes:

  • The time may differ depends on type of dal and water you use.
  • You can temper it with mustard,cumin and curry leaves.
  • You can also add pepper if you want.
  • Adding ghee gives more richness.

Arisi Paruppu Sadam | Paruppu Sadam |Arisemparuppu | Dal Rice

Arisi parupu sadam is a famous kongu special recipe.This is a very quick dish can me made less than 15 to 20 mins.When ever i got up late and lazzy , i use to prepare this for Vnd's lunch box,and he never got bored of it.Goes yum with simple potato varuval or pickle. Here is the recipe from Dhivis Pantry.... 


Arisi Paruppu Sadam

Preparation Time:20 mins | Serves: 2

Ingredients


Rice-1/2 cup

Toor dal-1/4 cup

Small onion-10(Big-1)

Tomato-1/2 or 1

Garlic-5 or G & G paste-1 tsp

Red chilli-1

Cinnamon-2

Cloves-3

Cumin/Zeera-1 tsp

Mustard-1/2 tsp

Turmeric-1/4 tsp

Salt as per taste

Oil & Ghee -2 tbsp

Method:

  1. Wash the rice,dal and soak for 15 mins
  2. Chop onion,tomato and garlic
  3. 2 add
  4. In a pressure cooker add oil and ghee,once it is hot add mustard and when it splutters add cumin,red chill fry for 10 seconds.
  5. 2 add
  6. Then add onion cook till transparent,add garlic cook for 20 sec and add turmeric give a stir.
  7. Now add tomato and salt cook till mushy.
  8. 2 add
  9. Now add 1 cup of water and once it starts boiling add the rice and dal,adjust salt as per your taste.
  10. When it starts boiling,add some more ghee and close the lid and pressure it cook it for 1 whistle and keep it in slow flame for 5 more mins(you can smell some nice aroma when its done) and switch off.
  11. 2 add
  12. When the pressure is relesed .Serve hot with Potato varuval or pickle and fryums.

Notes:

  • You can mix toor dal and moong dal also.
  • Broad toor dal will be very good for this recipe.

  This Moong Dal is a classic version for Rice and chapathi .I got this recipe from MOM as most of the time my mom make dal.I make this very often as Vnd and Shn like this very much.I usually make it less spicy as Shn hate spicy food   


Moong dal Kuzhambu

Preparation Time:20 mins    |       Serves: 3

Ingredients


Moong dal-1/2 cup

Small onion-7 to 8

Tomato-1 (medium)

Curry leaves-few

Coriander leaves-few

Red chilli-1(o.p)

Garlic-5 pods

Turmeric-1/4 tsp

Sambar pwdr-1tbsp

Cumin-1tbsp

Hing-a pinch

Ghee-1tbsp

oil-1tbsp

Mustard

Castor oil-4 drops(o.p)

Method:

  1. Chop onion,garlic and tomato into finely.n a Pressure cooker add dal and wash it once then add garlic ,turmeric,castor oil(See Notes) and half of the cumin(remaining for tempering) then add enough water and pressure cook it
  2. 2 add
  3. Once the dal is done .In a pan add oil then mustard ,once it splutters add the cumin then hing,immediately add onion and curry leaves.
  4. 2 add
  5. Once the onion is transulent add tomato and cook till it is mushy.
  6. Now sambar powder and mix well ,then add the cooked dal and mix it well.
  7. 2 add
  8. Let it cook till boiling ,once it started boiling add coriander leaves ,ghee and remove from flame.

Notes:

    • Adding Castrol oil removes gas from Dal.
    • If your sambar powder is too spicy skip red chilli.
