Quick Channa Masala | Channa Masala |Channa Gravy

         This a very special dish to me ,as this was the first dish i tried in my college days and got very good feedback from my frnds and relatives.During college holidays me and my sis use to go to my uncle's house,And der one of my aunts neighbor got a malika badrinath cookbook as a gift from sun tv contest.And my aunt had a few copy of those recipes.And i took it from her and i tried this(later i lost those copies ,but i could still remember this recipe alone.The original recipe is with out mint.This is a one pot recipe and very easy to prepare for lunch box.The sweet ,tangy&spicy flavor goes well chapathi. Quick Chana Masala

Ingredients

Channa-1/2 cup(soaked)

Onion-1/2

Cinnamon-1

Cloves-3

Elachi-4

Sugar/Jaggery-1 tbsp

Red color(op)

Salt as per taste

Oil/Ghee-3 tbsp

To Grind:


Onion-1&1/2(if big 1)

Tomato 2

Coriander-5 to 6 strands

Mint -few

Garlic-5

Ginger-1 inch

Cumin-1 tsp

Red chilli pwdr-1 tsp(i used tikalal red chilli pwdr)

whole Pepper-10

Method:

    2 add
  1. Soak chaana over night.
  2. In a mixer grind onion,tomato,ginger,garlic,mint,coriander,redchilli pwdr,cumin,pepper into a fine paste.
  3. In a pressuer cooker add ghee/oil(i used both half each),then add cinnamon,elachi ,cloves and fry for 15 secs.
  4. 2 add
  5. Now add the ground paste and close the lid with out whistle ,cook for 5 to 6 mins till oil float on top.
  6. 2 add
  7. Now add the channa, salt ,red color(op,i didnt use,1 cup water and pressure cook it for 2 to 3 whistles till channa cooked.
  8. Mean while will chop the onion and keep it ready
  9. 2 add
  10. Once the pressure is released add the finelly chopped onion and sugar(i used brown sugar) mix well and adjust the salt if required.

Notes:

    • You can use black channa also and add potato also with channa for variation.
    • Skip the onion in the last step if you want.
    • The original recipe is without mint,so you can skip mint if you want.
    • If you use tikalal or any kasmiri chilli pwdr ,skip red color .
