Method:
- Wash the thinai | Foxtail well in water as it have lot of impurities.
- Pressure cook foxtail and dals separately in pressure cooker.
- Chop the veggies and cook the veggies till half done.I microwaved for 5 mins.(if you want crunchy veggies then this step is optional).
- In a wide pan add oil then onions ,curry leaves, once the onions are translucent add in the tomato along with some salt and cook till its mushy.
- Now add in the half cooked veggies with some turmeric and fry for 2 mins.In the mean time mix the bise bele bath powder with 1 cup water and keep it ready.
- Add the bise bele bath powder and let it boil for 5 mins and then add the tamarind water and allow it to boil for another 5 mins or till raw tamarind smell goes.
- Roughly smash the foxtail millet and dal before adding to tamarind mixture. Now add the cooked dal and foxtail to it and mix well, adjust salt, water if needed(the bise bele bath should be runny as it will get thick when cooled.
- Once it started boiling switch off the stove. The consistency should be runny as in pic.
- Now in another pan Temper the items(peanut, mustard, channadal, cashew, hing and curry leaves)given and it to the bise bele bath.
- Now add in jaggery, few tbsp of ghee and mix well.
- Always serve the bise bele bath when hot with fryms,papad,etc....
Notes:
- The actual bise bele bath should be reddish in color ,which is given by the bise bele bath powder.I have used oly 3 tbsp of powder, but if you love spiciness add more.
- Mixed veg can be any thing that you use for making sambar(brinjal, drumstick, carrot, beans, potato, broad beans, peas, chow chow, radish ,etc..)
- Cooking of veggies before is optional.
- Adjust the tangyness as per ur taste.
- You can replace the foxtail millet with raw rice, poha, brown rice, oats, banyard millet.
- You can also prepare this by sambar powdre but the taste will differ.
- If you have not added dry coconut in your bisebelebath powder then add directly to the recipe.
